I just got off the phone with my P.I. lawyer.
He told me that I have no UM coverage on this case.
I do have UM coverage thru Progressive personally but it only covers
me while I am on my way to pick up a passenger. Once they get in my
car, there is no UM coverage. Meanwhile, I have been going through
treatment related to this accident, and since this accident,
I have also been unable to work because of my injuries and
the damage done to my car in this accident. If you look at the actual police report
it says on there that the person that hit me has no auto coverage.
She said at the scene that she did have insurance but her phone screen was broken
so no one could verify that she did have coverage. She did not get cited for anything.
They put her in the number 1 spot on their report so if she did not get in any trouble,
that is fine by me. It turns out that she does have coverage through The General Insurance.
The General Insurance only sells the absolute minimum coverage possible. So the only coverage
she has will pay for her Personal Injury Protection and my deductible. I have Uber driver insurance that
pays for my medical bills only (my saving grace) it does not provide any type
of pain and suffering payment, so my P.I. Attorney said he is closing my file lol.
The Uber Auto insurance now is also the absolute minimum that they require in Florida by law.
They do provide (Uber insurance) 5K for the driver’s medical expenses.
So because I don’t have the money for a $2500.00 deductible, I opted to get everything
done through my own personal policy that has a $1000.00 deductible. Because of that
I don’t have any PIP insurance either. The only insurance that I have personally here
is the Uber driver insurance and they subtract like 4 cents per mile that I drive
and it only covers me as the driver when I am online via the Uber platform.
If I did not have that coverage, I would only have the $5000.00 to pay for my medical bills. I was rear-ended by a passenger in the car in 2019 and Uber had $250,000.00 of UM coverage
and a $1000.00 deductible. Now they have this huge $2500.00 deductible and no UM coverage at all.
So if a driver gets in an accident, there is no coverage for the driver. The passengers are
covered for up to 1 million in expenses, the driver though is not covered at all.
